1. Hot Water Solar: 2 Panel system on roof
2. Thermostatically controlled wood burning stove
a. Thelin-Thompson parlor stove with waste heat recovery system. ingeniously added by owner who was a piping engineer. The waste heat recovery system heats water when stove is on and pipes the hot water through a heater in the lower level bedroom which radiates heat prior to going into the holding tank in the garage.
b. Up to 80% efficient (as efficient as pellet stove)
c. Uses free local/onsite wood sources to burn (pine cones, fallen branches) and logs up to 7 inches diameter and 24 inches long.
3. Solar water distiller: found on upstairs balcony and is connected to water supply. Additionally, it could easily be connected to the gutters for using rainwater when available (see item 4) or used to purify seawater, greywater etc.
4. TPO Roof: Newer roof is made with thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO), which is a clean roofing surface great for using rainwater runoff to drink and/or feed plants.
5. Electric water distiller: this is a rare piece of machinery that is connected to the water supply and can generate clean distilled drinking water to supplement the solar water distiller.
6. On-demand water heater: for shower
7. Energy Efficient Windows & Doors: dual pane Andersen windows & doors that are low e-4 and FSC certified wood.
8. Banana tree circle: permaculture designed in raised planting bed on patio w/compost area in the middle of the circle/planting bed. Papayas, tomatoes, cumbers and a pineapple are currently being grown between the dwarf banana trees.
